A ten-vehicle collision on the Cipularang Toll Road towards Jakarta occurred at Km 93, near the 93-km marker, on Thursday night, 5 March 2026, at 20:18 local time. The incident involved a container truck and nine other vehicles, including a pickup, a lorry, a Toyota Rush, a Daihatsu Sigra, a curtain-sider truck, a Hiace minibus, a Toyota Raize, a Mazda Biante and a Toyota Agya. Two people were killed, reportedly the driver and the pickup’s crew, with four others sustaining serious injuries. All casualties were evacuated to Radjak Hospital in Purwakarta for further treatment. Jasa Marga apologised for the inconvenience during evacuation.

Traffic at the site initially congested for about 3 kilometres, with delays from Km 96 to Km 93. There was no full closure of the route; delays were attributed to the evacuation process. By 20:59 one lane had reopened, and by 21:43 two lanes were passable again.

Police and toll-road operator Jasa Marga provided initial details, naming the involved vehicles as a container truck (police number B-9367-UEL), a pickup, a truck, a Toyota Rush, a Daihatsu Sigra, a tronton bok (box trailer), a Hiace, a Toyota Raize, a Mazda Biante and a Toyota Agya. The two fatalities were the driver and the pickup’s crew.

Initial theories point to brake failure as a possible cause, with the container truck’s braking system malfunctioning and losing control, leading it to collide with vehicles ahead. AKP Enggar Jati Nugroho of the Purwakarta Traffic Unit stated that the container truck’s brakes failed on the way from Bandung to Jakarta, contributing to the pile-up.

Kompol Joko Prihantono provided the chronology: the incident began with the container truck’s brake problem (plate B-9367-UEL). The truck, travelling in lane one toward Jakarta, encountered heavy congestion caused by a dumper truck with a fault. Attempts to brake failed, and the container truck struck several vehicles, prompting further collisions as it tried to brake and collided with a pickup before triggering the multi-vehicle crash.

A survivor, Soleh Muslim, described the moment the traffic halted and the crash occurred, with his car being struck from behind multiple times and tossed several times by the impacts. Another survivor, Ryan, noted a slowdown due to congestion before a series of rear-end impacts.
