69 sex abuse cases in Central Java

SEMARANG, Central Java: The East Java Child Protection Center (LPA) said on Friday there were 69 recorded cases of sexual abuse of children in the province from January to June of this year.

The chairman of LPA, Tengku Usda el Ahmady, said 39 percent of the cases involved children between the ages of 11 and 15, while the remaining 61 percent of cases involved children under the age of 11 and between the ages of 16 and 18.

"It is obvious that teenagers are potential targets for sexual abuse," he said, adding that 30.6 percent of the cases of sexual abuse were committed by adults between the ages of 26 and 55. --Antara
