687 Joint Personnel Secure Four Protest Points in Central Jakarta

Jakarta (ANTARA) - A total of 687 combined police personnel from Polda Metro Jaya, Polres Metro Jakarta Pusat and their subordinate police stations have been placed on standby to secure demonstrations at four locations in the Central Jakarta area on Friday.

Head of Public Relations for Polres Metro Jakarta Pusat, Inspector Erlyn Sumantri, said the first demonstration would be staged by the Alliance of Law-Concerned Students and several other mass elements.

“Security for the protest by the Alliance of Law-Concerned Students and several mass elements will be in the Gambir area, with activities planned to start at 10.00 Western Indonesia Time (WIB),” Erlyn said in a written statement on Friday.

The next demonstration will be staged by the Executive Board of the Committee of Students and Youth for Reform (KMP Reformasi) at the LBH DPN Indonesia office at 10.00 WIB.

Subsequently, a demonstration by Cipayung Plus Jakarta Selatan (LMND, HMP MPO, GMNI, PMKRI, HMI DIPO, SEMMI, PMII, IMM and KAMMI) will take place at the office of the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education at 13.00 WIB.

In addition, combined personnel have also been placed on standby to secure a demonstration by the Alliance of Students and Youth of DKI Jakarta, to be held at the Financial Services Authority (OJK) office at 14.00 WIB.

Officers will apply traffic management measures at these locations as the situation requires, taking into account the number of demonstrators on the ground.

The public has been advised to avoid the areas surrounding the protest sites in order to prevent traffic congestion.
