A total of 679 inmates at the Class I State Detention Centre (Rutan) in Central Jakarta, also known as Salemba Detention Centre, have received general remission as part of the 81st anniversary celebrations of the Republic of Indonesia. The remissions range from one to five months.

“The number of inmates proposed to receive general remission in 2026 was 680 people, and those who met the requirements to be proposed for general remission totalled 679 people, meaning the percentage of inmates receiving remission is 75%,” said the Head of the Class I Central Jakarta Detention Centre, Wahyu Trah Utomo, in a written statement on Monday (17/8/2026).

Wahyu said the current population of Salemba Detention Centre stands at 2,322 people, comprising 903 inmates and 1,419 detainees. He expressed hope that the granting of remission would serve as a positive stimulus for the correctional inmates (WBP).

“This is expected to serve as a stimulus for WBP to behave well and play an active role in the rehabilitation programmes organised by the Detention Centre,” he said.
