An elderly man with the initials IKW (67) was found dead by hanging on a pomelo tree in Pikat Village, Dawan District, Klungkung, on Saturday (13/6/2026). The tragic incident is suspected to have been triggered by prolonged depression and a debt burden of tens of millions of rupiah.

Klungkung Police Public Relations Head, Iptu I Dewa Nyoman Alit Purnawibawa, confirmed the event. The victim, a resident of Pikat Village, Dawan District, worked as a casual labourer. His body was first discovered by a garden owner with the initials IWW (64) at around 2.30 p.m. local time.

"The witness was on his way to his rice field and cattle shed. At the scene, the witness saw the victim already hanging from the citrus tree," said Iptu Dewa Alit when confirmed on Saturday evening.

The shocked witness immediately reported the incident to the local village officials, who then forwarded the report to the Dawan Police Sector. Police personnel along with a medical team from the Dawan II Community Health Centre arrived at the location to process the scene and conduct an intensive examination.

From the crime scene investigation, police found the victim with his neck suspended by a yellow scarf. Police also found the victim’s belongings in his clothing pockets, including a mobile phone, Rp 120,000 in cash, and a credit arrears bill.

"In the victim’s pocket, a credit arrears notice from the Pikat Village Credit Institution (LPD) was found, with a value reaching Rp 68,895,000," Dewa Alit revealed.

Meanwhile, from the medical examination led by Dr Putu Ngurah Priadnya, no signs of violence or blunt force trauma due to abuse were found on the victim’s body. There was a ligature mark from the yellow scarf around the neck measuring 26 centimetres, as well as a small, almost dry laceration on the chin.

Based on information from the family, the victim was known to have a long-standing history of depression.

"The family stated that they accept and are resigned to this incident as a tragedy. They refused an autopsy and have made an official statement," Alit concluded.
