67 Police Stations and Police Flats in Flores Damaged by Earthquake, 14 Severely
A total of 67 sector police stations (Polsek) and police residential flats (rusun) in Flores, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), have been damaged by an earthquake. NTT Regional Police recorded that the damage to police facilities includes 9 Polsek offices (8 lightly damaged, 1 severely damaged), 4 Polsubsektor/Pospol (3 lightly damaged, 1 severely damaged), and 54 police dormitories and flats (42 units lightly damaged, 12 units severely damaged).
The residential flat of the West Manggarai Police Resort is among those that suffered severe damage from the earthquake. Police personnel and their families occupying the flat have taken refuge in emergency tents in the flat’s courtyard. NTT Police Chief Inspector General Rudi Darmoko inspected the condition of the flat directly on Thursday (27/8/2026).
“I am here to check directly the condition of the West Manggarai Police Resort personnel flats in accordance with the directive of the National Police Chief. Police personnel in the field are tasked with helping and assisting community members affected by the disaster, yet on the other hand they and their families are also victims and must take refuge in front of the flat,” said Rudi Darmoko after inspecting the West Manggarai Police Resort flat.
During the field visit, Rudi was accompanied by NTT Deputy Police Chief Brigadier General Faizal and West Manggarai Police Chief Adjunct Senior Commissioner Christian Kadang, as well as senior NTT Police officials. They observed closely the condition of the police personnel’s dwellings, which were cracked up to the third floor, while also distributing special assistance from the National Police Chief.
Rudi said NTT Regional Police are currently collecting data on all police facilities affected by the earthquake in Flores. This data collection is being carried out so that the repair process can be realised promptly according to priority scale.
“In accordance with the order of the National Police Chief, this week all damage to members’ houses, police station offices, and police posts must be recorded,” said Rudi.
“Buildings that meet the criteria for light damage will be the main priority for repair this week, while those with severe damage will be proposed to National Police Headquarters for further handling,” he added.
He expressed gratitude that so far there have been no reports of police personnel suffering injuries or fatalities due to the earthquake.
To restore the psychological condition of residents and affected personnel’s families, NTT Regional Police have deployed 63 trauma healing counsellors stationed at evacuation centres in seven districts across Flores. The team is a combination of personnel from the Psychology Bureau of the National Police Human Resources Division, NTT Regional Police, and BKO police units.
“We are focusing this psychological support on both adults and children in order to release negative emotions, fear, and post-disaster trauma. We want residents to be able to neutralise their fear promptly and return to living their lives normally,” explained Rudi.
In addition to psychological handling, a joint medical team from the National Police Medical and Health Centre, NTT Police Medical and Health Division, and the local Health Service has been on standby at health posts to provide medical services for evacuees.
