Jalan Lingkar Selatan (JLS) in Cilegon, which serves as a route for motorcyclists heading to Ciwandan Port in Cilegon, Banten, faces the risk of complete darkness.

This is because 64 public street lights (PJU) have ceased functioning due to stolen batteries and severed cables.

“Approximately 64 poles have had their cables stolen by irresponsible parties,” stated Heri Suheri, Head of the Transportation Department (Dishub) for Cilegon City, on Tuesday (10 March).

As a result, travellers driving at night must exercise extra caution. Currently, the road relies solely on vehicle headlights and building illumination along JLS for visibility.

Travellers and tourists unfamiliar with JLS must heighten their vigilance given the dark conditions, slippery road surfaces, and high rainfall.

“Under the mayor’s orders, we will install or replace the cables again. Hopefully they will not be stolen again,” he explained.

The public is urged not to damage or steal PJU batteries, in order to maintain street lighting on JLS and prevent danger to road users.

“These street lights are assets of the Cilegon City government and its residents; let us protect them together,” he said.
