63,000 apply for local govt jobs

BANDA ACEH, Aceh: At least 63,000 young people have applied
for jobs with the Aceh provincial government. More people are
expected to apply as applications may be submitted until Nov. 24.

The competition will be tight as there were only 6,227 civil
service posts available in the provincial government, said
Tantawi Ishak, the secretary to the Aceh provincial
administration.

A resident, Trisna, said that if she became a civil servant
she would be safe. "At least, I won't be suspected of being
member of the Free Aceh Movement (GAM)," she said. -- JP
