Jakarta — The Head of the National Nutrition Agency (BGN), Dadan Hindayana, announced that the agency has temporarily closed 62 Nutrition Service Units (SPPG) because they failed to meet the standards for meal provision under the Free Nutritious Meal (MBG) programme.

“There are 62 SPPG that we have temporarily closed because they do not comply with meal provision standards. Whether it be minimal menus or poor-quality menus, these 62 SPPG have been closed temporarily during Ramadhan,” Dadan said at the Attorney General’s Office Building in Jakarta on Tuesday (17 March 2026).

He explained that the closures are being implemented during Ramadhan as a supervisory measure to improve the programme’s partner organisations.

Beyond the 62 SPPG with problematic menu provision, BGN has also temporarily closed several other SPPG units that have failed to meet administrative requirements, including wastewater treatment installation (IPAL) and food hygiene and sanitation certification (SLHS).

According to Dadan, the temporary closures will remain in effect until the SPPG operators address their deficiencies.

“We are giving them an opportunity to improve. If they repeat their violations, it is possible that they could be permanently closed,” he said.

BGN has also strengthened oversight by involving various parties, ranging from internal agency audits and audits by the Financial and Development Supervisory Board (BPKP), to cooperation with the Attorney General’s Office for monitoring down to regional levels.

This approach was adopted given that approximately 93 per cent of BGN’s budget is channelled directly to regions through SPPG.

BGN has also opened a public complaints channel through the “Nutrition Companion 127” service, which operates 24 hours a day to receive reports relating to programme implementation in the field.

Dadan added that BGN will continue to conduct evaluations to reduce the number of problematic SPPG and improve the quality of the MBG programme’s services.
