614 Kramat Jati Traders to be Reorganised, Pramono Prepares Additional Locations
Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung is preparing additional locations to accommodate traders from the Kramat Jati market who have not yet been assigned a place to sell. A total of approximately 614 traders are being reorganised as part of an effort to tidy up the area.
Pramono stated that the rearrangement of Kramat Jati traders is one of the Jakarta Provincial Government’s efforts to restore the function of roads and public spaces. This restructuring follows decades of trading activity in the area.
“There are approximately 614 to 640 traders in Kramat Jati,” said Pramono during an inspection of the Kramat Jati Market, East Jakarta, on Tuesday (1/9/2026).
He noted that the Jakarta Provincial Government has prepared several locations to house the traders. Specifically, 331 traders will be moved to the Kramat Jati Sector 7 market. Furthermore, 193 fish traders will be relocated to the Lokbin Kramat Jati, 45 cake traders will be directed to Lokbin Cililitain, and another 45 traders will be placed in other markets managed by Perumda Pasar Jaya.
However, some traders have yet to be accommodated due to limited space.
On the other hand, Pramono mentioned that the Jakarta Provincial Government already has alternative additional locations. These sites are said to be located not far from the Kramat Jati area.
“There is indeed an alternative place that I have already approved and communicated to Mr Muhtarom for use. Hopefully, it can be prepared in a short period of time,” he said.
Pramono added that once these locations are ready, the issue of insufficient space for traders can be resolved immediately.
When asked about the preparation time for the additional locations, Muhtarom initially suggested two months. However, Pramono requested that the process be accelerated.
Muhtarom subsequently stated that the additional location could be prepared within three weeks.
“Traders will naturally try to negotiate. Three weeks, right? Everyone is listening, okay,” said Pramono.
Reorganisation Since the 1970s
Pramono acknowledged that reorganising the traders in Kramat Jati is no easy task, as trading activities in the area have been ongoing for over 50 years, since the early 1970s.
He emphasised that the Jakarta Provincial Government does not wish to carry out enforcement through mere evictions. The government must ensure that traders have decent places to conduct their business.
“If the approach so far has been to evict and move people, I am requesting a more humane alternative. To that end, there must be a proper place for them to sell,” he said.
Pramacy reaffirmed that the restructuring is being conducted so that traders can continue to earn a living while simultaneously restoring the function of roads and public spaces.
