600 refugees still in Lombok

PRAYA, Central Lombok: Central Lombok Regent Suhaimi said the
local administration was finding it difficult to resettle around
600 refugees from restive regions, including Irian Jaya, Sambas
and Poso.

"The refugees, mostly born in the restive areas, have stayed
at their relatives' homes temporarily while waiting for their
resettlement," he said while celebrating the 22nd anniversary of
World Food Day here on Thursday.

Suhaimi said the central government should take the initiative
to resettle the refugees because the local administration could
not afford to support them or provide them with work. --Antara
