600 Mangroves Rehabilitated to Strengthen Coastal Ecosystem
PT Pertamina Port and Logistics (PPL) has rehabilitated 600 mangrove trees in the Tanjung Batu Shorebase area as part of efforts to strengthen the coastal ecosystem while supporting environmental conservation. The programme is aimed at improving the quality of the mangrove area, reducing the risk of abrasion, and maintaining environmental sustainability around the company’s operational areas. The rehabilitation began with a planning process that included site mapping, identification of land conditions, and selection of mangrove species suited to the local coastal characteristics. This step was taken to ensure the success rate of planting while supporting optimal ecosystem recovery. In its implementation, planting was carried out using an ecosystem-based management approach with methods adapted to each coastal zone. For areas experiencing abrasion, the programme was also complemented with conservation activities and monitoring of mangrove seedling growth to increase the success rate of rehabilitation. Director of PT Pertamina Port and Logistics, Muhammad Akbar Thaib, said mangrove rehabilitation is part of the company’s commitment to creating sustainability value that benefits both the environment and the community. ‘This mangrove planting is a form of our commitment to preserving the environment in the Tanjung Batu Shorebase area. Besides helping to reduce the risk of abrasion and supporting greening, we hope the presence of mangroves can provide benefits for the coastal ecosystem and the surrounding flora and fauna. Going forward, we will continue these efforts as part of the company’s commitment to environmental sustainability,’ said Muhammad Akbar Thaib. Through this programme, the company hopes the coastal area will have better resilience against abrasion, biodiversity will be maintained, and the ecological benefits generated can be felt sustainably by the communities around the operational area. Going forward, PT Pertamina Port and Logistics stated it will continue to develop various sustainability programmes as part of the company’s commitment to supporting environmentally sound development while creating added value for the community and all stakeholders.
