60-year-old grandfather accused of molesting four-year-old neighbor girl in Situbondo

SITUBONDO — A 60-year-old grandfather has been accused of molesting a four-year-old girl in Situbondo, East Java. The Situbondo Regional Police (Polres) is investigating the alleged sexual abuse by interviewing multiple witnesses.

Situbondo Police’s Criminal Investigation Unit Chief AKP Agung Hartawan stated that authorities have received a report of the alleged molestation and are conducting a thorough investigation. ‘We have taken statements from four witnesses. We have not yet interviewed the victim or the person who reported the case as the investigation is ongoing,’ he said in Situbondo on Friday, 29 June 2026.

According to the police report submitted to Situbondo’s Integrated Police Service Centre (SPKT), the suspect allegedly committed the act against a neighbour’s child. The report states the incident occurred on Friday, 13 March around 11:00 WIB and was reported on 26 May 2026 after the child complained of genital pain to her parents.

The child’s condition did not improve despite initial reluctance to undergo examination. The family later took her for a medical check-up at Besuki Regional Hospital on 19 March 2026.

Initially uncooperative, the victim eventually confessed to being molested by the suspect after being accompanied during questioning. Shocked by the confession, the family promptly filed a police report.

AKP Hartawan confirmed the case is being charged under multiple legal provisions, including Article 76E in conjunction with Article 82(1) of the Child Protection Law and Law No. 12 of 2022 on Sexual Violence Crimes (TPKS).
