MediaMIND 2026 is entering its fifth year and has attracted strong interest from journalists. The competition drew 782 registrations across the written, video, photography and infographic categories.

Of those, 269 participants submitted a total of 612 journalistic works, which were assessed through an independent selection process by state news agency LKBN ANTARA alongside editors and senior journalists from national media.

Sixty journalists from various national and regional media outlets have officially reached the final of the MediaMIND 2026 Journalism Competition. The finalists will take part in a series of site visits to the operating areas of MIND ID group members, gaining first-hand experience of mining operations, downstream processing and the mineral industry’s contribution to national development.

MIND ID Head of Institutional Relations Selly Adriatika said MediaMIND was designed both as a journalism competition and as a learning opportunity for journalists to gain a deeper understanding of the dynamics of the mining industry and its role in supporting national development.

“Through this initiative, we want to create more opportunities for journalists to see directly how the mining sector operates, how downstream processing is carried out, and how companies are working to benefit communities and regions,” Selly said in a written statement on Monday (19 October 2026).

“We hope the experience will broaden participants’ perspectives as they produce journalism that is informative, balanced and adds value for the public,” she added.

As part of the final, participants will visit operating sites of MIND ID group members: PT ANTAM Tbk in Kolaka, PT Bukit Asam Tbk in Ombilin, PT Freeport Indonesia in Timika, PT Indonesia Asahan Aluminium (INALUM) in Kuala Tanjung, PT Timah Tbk in Batam, and PT Vale Indonesia Tbk in Sorowako.

During the visits, finalists will have the opportunity to observe company operations, downstreaming programmes and sustainability initiatives, and to engage with workers and communities near the sites. The field experience is expected to help participants produce more comprehensive accounts of the mining sector’s contribution to Indonesia.

Selly said works produced for MediaMIND should not remain merely entries in a competition, but should also serve as references and a lasting digital record that deepen public understanding of the national mining industry.

“We believe the media play an important role in building public literacy. MediaMIND therefore seeks not only to produce outstanding work, but also to encourage narratives that fully portray the challenges, opportunities and contribution of the mining sector to Indonesia’s future,” she said.

As Indonesia’s mining industry holding company, MIND ID is committed to continuing to foster dialogue and collaboration with the media so that the transformation of the mining sector, mineral downstreaming and efforts to create added value are more widely understood by the public.

“In this way, the management of Indonesia’s natural resources can continue to be overseen collectively in support of strengthening national economic sovereignty,” she concluded.
