60,000 Prospective Students Did Not Re-register, Ministry Says It's Last Year's Data

The Director of Learning and Student Affairs at the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology, Beny Bandanadjaja, has clarified that the issue regarding 60,000 prospective students reportedly not re-registering for the Achievement-Based National Selection (SNBP) is data from 2025. He stated that this figure was presented during a hearing between the National Selection Committee for New Student Admissions and the Indonesian House of Representatives, which conveyed information for the year 2025. “We conveyed that this year’s new student admission process is still ongoing until the final deadline, which according to regulations is at the end of July. So, if today is only 1 July, it means several universities are still conducting new student admissions through the independent pathway,” Beny said during a Denpasar 12 webinar on Wednesday (1/7). According to the schedule and applicable rules, the maximum deadline for the 2026 new student admission process is 31 July, so the latest data has not yet been collected. “Therefore, the data presented regarding the 60,000 is data from 2025,” he stated succinctly. The total capacity of all state universities participating in the national selection is approximately 627,000. Thus, around 585,000 were accepted through the process. “This means there is unfilled capacity. This does not mean they were not accepted, but rather that the public has varying interests. We give the public the freedom to choose available study programmes, so the level of competition for these study programmes varies,” he concluded. The high re-registration rate is also supported by an education fee policy oriented towards the principles of justice and affordability. “For the SNBP itself, the re-registration percentage of those accepted is actually quite high, at 92 percent,” said Eduart.
