6 Facts of YTR's Torture: From Sadistic Abuse to Maggot-Infested Head

YTR came to public attention after suffering torture and confinement by the perpetrator, Taufik Hidayat, for three years. During that period, Taufik moved from one boarding house to another. He also claimed to have married YTR to deceive residents and avoid suspicion. The torture of YTR was only uncovered after she was taken to Hasan Sadikin Hospital (RSHS) in Bandung on 10 June. Meanwhile, Taufik has now been arrested and named a suspect by the West Java Regional Police. Here are the latest facts revealed so far regarding the torture of YTR. West Java Police Chief, Inspector General Rudi Setiawan, stated that they are still investigating Taufik’s mental state following his brutal actions against YTR. ‘Because what was done is something unnatural, outside the normal behaviour of a person. This is sadistic,’ Rudi said on Tuesday evening (23/6). Based on preliminary examination results, Taufik was known to have a habit of consuming alcohol. Arguments often occurred when the former debt collector was under the influence of alcohol. ‘Every time he consumed alcohol, he would always argue with his girlfriend. Quarrels occurred which then led to abuse,’ Rudi said. Rudi detailed that YTR frequently experienced violence from the perpetrator between 2024 and 2026. Rudi stated that the victim was often beaten on the body. In 2024, when they lived in the Cicaheum area of Bandung, Rudi also said that Taufik did not hesitate to burn YTR with a cigarette when he was upset. On another occasion, Taufik also hit YTR’s right and left eyes using a solid object. Additionally, he once slashed YTR’s knee with a piece of iron. RSHS Bandung President Director, Rachim Dinata Marsidi, said that YTR’s condition was very serious when she was brought to the hospital. ‘When she arrived, it can be said that her wounds were quite numerous and there was a severe infection in the head area,’ Rachim said. ‘It can be said that there were maggots,’ he added. After discovering this, RSHS immediately performed surgery on the victim’s head. ‘We immediately performed wound cleaning surgery and we found bacteria that were indeed quite severe,’ Rachim explained. Currently, YTR’s condition appears to have improved. However, YTR is now experiencing vision impairment due to the severe abuse. ‘According to the doctor, the right eye is damaged. Her eyes are indeed myopic, with thick glasses. Even with glasses off, her vision is unclear. The left eye’s pupil has shrunk,’ said YTR’s relative, Erni. Despite this, YTR still tries to be independent despite her vision impairment, such as attempting to eat by herself. ‘I spoon-fed her, but her hands seemed to want to eat on her own,’ said Erni. In a video uploaded by Erni, YTR asked for Taufik to be severely punished. ‘I want him to be punished as severely as possible, so he feels what I felt,’ she said. YTR’s father also hopes Taufik receives the maximum penalty for his actions. ‘Punish him as severely as possible, because we are a nation of laws, life imprisonment, because YTR is disabled for life,’ said YTR’s father.
