6 Facts About the Dramatic Drug Raid in Kampung Bahari
The National Narcotics Agency (BNN) conducted a raid on a drug den in Kampung Bahari, Tanjung Priok, North Jakarta. Here are several facts regarding the raid, which was met with resistance.
MR, a drug kingpin, was on the wanted list (DPO) in connection with the possession of 98 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine on 7 November 2025. The raid was carried out on Thursday morning (13/8/2026). The arrest attempt was met with fierce resistance from the trafficker’s loyalists, forcing officers to fire tear gas to disperse the mob.
- Kingpin and Loyalists Arrested
BNN arrested the drug kingpin and several of his loyalists during the raid. “We arrested MR, the drug boss, as he was leaving his den in the Kampung Bahari area,” said BNN Deputy for Eradication, Inspector General Roy Hardy Siahaan, on Thursday (13/8/2026).
- Officers Met with Firecracker Attacks
Video footage showed BNN and Brimob officers on high alert at the scene, wearing full tactical gear including bulletproof vests and helmets. The drug network fought back by shooting firecrackers at the officers. “Initially, we arrested the boss in the Kampung Bahari area, then we took him inside for further investigation,” Roy explained. “But then there was resistance from them; our members were shot at with firecrackers. We held them off and pushed them back.”
- Commuter Line Services Temporarily Disrupted
The raid took place near railway tracks, causing delays to KRL Commuter Line services on the Tanjung Priok route. A crowd of residents gathered near the tracks, forcing trains to stop temporarily for safety reasons. Four commuter line services were delayed between 16 and 30 minutes until officers secured the area at 07:01 WIB.
- Kingpin Arrested While Undergoing Liposuction
The suspect MR was arrested while undergoing an aesthetic medical procedure at a beauty clinic in Mangga Besar, West Jakarta. “We arrested MR at a beauty salon or clinic in Mangga Besar,” said Inspector General Roy Hardy Siahaan. He specified that the suspect was undergoing a liposuction treatment at the time of the arrest.
- Ganja and Vehicles Seized
BNN seized narcotics, including marijuana (gorilla tobacco), firearms, a samurai sword, ammunition, mobile phones, and luxury vehicles. The evidence included a BMW seized at the clinic in Mangga Besar, as well as a Vespa scooter and another car secured near the crime scene.
- Other Major Traffickers Detected
BNN revealed that other major dealers operate in Kampung Bahari. Searches were conducted at the homes of a suspect nicknamed “Bos Gendut” (Fat Boss) and other kingpins, Arif alias Lopes and Kimmul. Based on information, these suspects possessed firearms, including a Glock pistol, and were known to illegally purchase weapons to resist law enforcement.
