Jakarta, Kompas.com - Metro Jaya Police deployed 6,678 combined personnel to secure the International Labour Day or May Day 2026 commemoration around the DPR/MPR RI building in Senayan, Central Jakarta, on Friday (1/5/2026).

The Head of Public Relations of Metro Jaya Police, Senior Commissioner Pol Budi Hermanto, stated that the thousands of personnel consist of elements from the National Police, Indonesian National Armed Forces, DKI Jakarta Provincial Government, security guards, and community security units.

“The number of personnel involved in the security around the DPR-MPR totals 6,678. This combined force includes 4,633 police personnel, 1,050 TNI personnel, 95 DKI Provincial Government personnel, 400 security guards, and 500 community security unit members,” Budi said during a doorstop in front of the DPR RI building on Friday.

He emphasised that expressing opinions in public is a right protected by law. However, he urged that the action be conducted in an orderly manner without damaging public facilities.

“We invite and urge that the expression of opinions be conveyed in an orderly, safe, and smooth manner,” Budi stated.

Budi also extended International Labour Day greetings to the workers who will voice their aspirations.

He stressed that the police will not tolerate groups of rioters who could potentially cause disorder during the action.

“If during this event there are other components that we identify as riot teams, who cause disorder and provoke, the police will not hesitate to secure those involved,” Budi said.

Budi mentioned that task force units and law enforcement teams have been prepared to minimise the potential for riots.

“Riot groups will not be given space in the DKI Jakarta area. The task force teams and law enforcement action teams will work to minimise and secure those who cause disturbances in the Jakarta area,” he said.

Budi also advised the public to avoid roads around the DPR RI building if they have no urgent needs, as an increase in vehicle volume is expected.

“The latest update indicates that the crowd heading to the DPR for the protest action numbers approximately 5,000 from Banten, West Java, and Greater Tangerang,” said Dekananto during the Readiness Roll Call for May Day 2026 Protest Services at the DPR RI building on Friday.

Dekananto stated that the crowd is scheduled to arrive around 10:00 WIB, with the gathering point in front of TVRI. Subsequently, representatives of the crowd are planned to be received by DPR RI leaders at 11:00 WIB.
