5G Internet No Longer a Luxury: Set to Reach Indonesia's Remote Regions
Jakarta, VIVA — Chinese technology giant ZTE Corporation has forged a strategic partnership with MyRepublic Indonesia through “Project Ascend” to deliver MyRepublic Air, a 5G Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) service in Indonesia.
The initiative will utilise the 1.4 GHz frequency band acquired by MyRepublic Indonesia — a leading fibre broadband and pay-TV provider operating under PT Eka Mas Republik, a subsidiary of PT Dian Swastatika Sentosa Tbk — through an auction process held by the Ministry of Communication and Digital (Kemkomdigi).
Planned coverage spans various regions across Sumatra, Kalimantan, Sulawesi, Bali and Nusa Tenggara, with the aim of supporting inclusive connectivity and driving Indonesia’s digital economic growth.
According to MyRepublic Indonesia’s Chief Technology Officer Hendra Gunawan, reliable internet access is a critical element in supporting access to education, financial services, healthcare, micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs), and various other public services.
As such, the expansion and strengthening of broadband infrastructure in underdeveloped and remote areas forms an important part of ongoing efforts to achieve more inclusive and equitable digital access throughout Indonesia.
By leveraging the technical characteristics of the 1.4 GHz spectrum, the approach enables efficient broadband service provision in medium- to low-density areas, whilst complementing existing infrastructure and supporting broader connectivity expansion efforts.
“Broadband is no longer a luxury, but essential infrastructure for supporting economic opportunity, education, and social inclusion,” he said in Jakarta on Thursday, 19 February 2026.
Meanwhile, ZTE will provide end-to-end network solutions encompassing Radio Access Network (RAN), Customer Premises Equipment (CPE), core network, wireless backhaul, and power systems.
This integrated approach enables MyRepublic to accelerate the implementation process whilst ensuring the network remains scalable, efficient, and ready to support future data traffic growth.
“This partnership is expected to help create a more resilient and inclusive broadband ecosystem, drive sustainable digital growth, empower communities, and support businesses across various regions,” said ZTE Indonesia President Director Richard Liang.
