Ahead of Iduladha 1447 Hijriah, President Prabowo Subianto has distributed 598 sacrificial cattle to provincial and district governments across Indonesia. The virtual handover ceremony underscores the government’s commitment to supporting communities in celebrating the festival.

The distribution event was conducted virtually, attended by regional governments nationwide. Zulkifli Syukur, Assistant I of the Riau Provincial Secretariat, attended the ceremony at the Riau Governor’s Office on Tuesday (26 May).

A young cattle farmer from Seberida District, Indragiri Hulu Regency, Riau, Franto Kukuh Sulahirio, also known as Rio, provided the sacrificial cattle for Riau province. The Simmental bull, named Si Bule, weighed 1 tonne and 13 kilograms, making it the largest sacrificial cow in Riau this year.

Deputy Minister of the State Secretariat, Juri Ardiantoro, stated that this year’s sacrificial cattle donations are being distributed to all provincial and district governments in Indonesia. He explained that the programme is a regular government initiative to assist communities in celebrating Iduladha.

‘In preparation for Iduladha, the President’s donation of sacrificial cattle is being distributed to all provincial and district governments across Indonesia,’ Ardiantoro said.

He added that a total of 598 cattle are being distributed to 552 receiving regions, comprising 38 provinces and 514 regencies/cities nationwide. This year, 525 cattle farmers were involved in supplying the President’s donation. Ardiantoro noted that the cattle’s weight ranges from 800kg to 1.3 tonnes.

The government also recorded that 46 provinces and regencies/cities received two cattle each, due to average weights of 400-500kg in those areas.

‘President Prabowo’s hope is that the sacrificial meat will be enjoyed by local communities around the receiving mosques and boost regional productivity,’ he concluded.
