PT Transjakarta has temporarily suspended operations of 59 articulated buses following a smoke incident involving one unit at Pancoran station in South Jakarta. The buses have been grounded to undergo technical inspections, particularly of their cooling systems.

The disruption occurred on bus DMR 715, operated by DAMRI on the Corridor 9 Pinang Ranti–Pluit route, on Saturday 14 February at 13:33 local time.

Transjakarta's Head of Public Relations and CSR, Ayu Wardhani, issued an apology over the incident. She confirmed that all passengers were safely evacuated and that services continued using the next available bus.

"The smoke emanating from the rear engine compartment, caused by a radiator leak, was swiftly handled by on-site personnel. All passengers were safely evacuated to the station area and transferred to the next bus in an orderly manner," Ayu said in a written statement on Wednesday 18 February 2026.

As a precautionary measure, Transjakarta immediately suspended operations of the affected fleet for a thorough examination. The buses will undergo comprehensive technical inspections before being permitted to return to service.

"Transjakarta is also conducting an in-depth internal investigation and carrying out inspections on 59 articulated gas-fuelled Zhongtong buses, particularly their cooling systems," she added.

According to Ayu, the measure was taken to ensure the entire fleet meets roadworthiness and service safety standards.

"The safety and comfort of our passengers is our top priority. We have zero tolerance for any neglect of technical standards. All affected buses will undergo a technical audit process before returning to passenger service," she said.

Previously, Transjakarta had suspended operations of bus DMR 715 on the Corridor 9 Pinang Ranti–Pluit route after the vehicle emitted thick smoke whilst stopped at Pancoran station.

The thick smoke incident occurred on Saturday 14 February 2026. Transjakarta issued an apology over the incident.

"PT Transjakarta extends its sincerest apologies for the technical disruption that occurred on bus DMR 715, operated by DAMRI on the Corridor 9 route (Pinang Ranti–Pluit) at Pancoran station on Saturday 14 February at 13:33 local time," Ayu said in a statement on Monday 16 February.

Ayu explained that the incident was caused by a radiator leak and that personnel had since addressed the matter.
