JAKARTA - The capture of sailfin catfish in Central Jakarta was conducted simultaneously across eight districts on Friday (17/4/2026). The operation took place in Kemayoran, Tanah Abang, Menteng, Sawah Besar, Gambir, Cempaka Putih, Johar Baru, and Senen, from 07.30 WIB to 10.00 WIB. “There are eight districts moving today in accordance with the instructions of Mr Governor (Pramono Anung),” said Central Jakarta Mayor Arifin in Gondangdia, Central Jakarta, on Friday. Arifin also requested that the sailfin catfish capture activities in Central Jakarta be held routinely every Friday. “I have just conveyed that every Friday morning, one of the actions is to catch sailfin catfish,” he said. However, according to him, if only adult sailfin catfish are captured, the control of sailfin catfish will not run maximally. This is because there are still many fish eggs attached to the walls of river embankments and nests on the riverbanks. “This must also be the target of our operation,” Arifin stated. According to Arifin, all captured sailfin catfish must be killed and buried immediately. Before burial, the sailfin catfish are first killed by breaking their bodies. “Don’t let anyone exploit them later; once buried, they are dug up again and used for bad purposes,” Arifin said. “Now, there must be security so that everything buried is truly to eliminate the population of sailfin catfish in the waters,” he added. The capture was led by Mayor Arifin, assisted by the Food Security, Maritime, and Agriculture Agency (PKP), Central Jakarta Fire Department, Environment Agency (LH), Water Resources Agency (SDA), and neighbourhood infrastructure and facilities officers (PPSU).
