57 East Aceh flood victims receive compensation

The East Aceh Regency Government, together with the Indonesian Ministry of Social Affairs, has distributed compensation to 57 heirs of victims affected by the hydrometeorological disaster in the region. East Aceh Regent Iskandar Usman Al-Farlaky stated on Wednesday that this distribution marks the third phase of payments for those who died or were injured. “This compensation distribution is a form of the government’s presence for communities impacted by the floods at the end of November 2025,” Iskandar Usman Al-Farlaky said. The total compensation disbursed in this phase reached Rp665 million. Of the 57 recipients, 38 were heirs of deceased victims, who received a total of Rp570 million, or Rp15 million each. “This is the third phase of compensation distribution. Previously, the first phase handover was attended by Home Affairs Minister Tito Karnavian, in his capacity as Chair of the Task Force for the Acceleration of Rehabilitation and Reconstruction of the Sumatra Region, and the Indonesian Minister of Social Affairs,” the Regent said. Including the third phase, the number of heirs of deceased victims who have received compensation now stands at 98, along with 21 injured victims. The total compensation distributed to date has reached Rp1.575 billion. Iskandar Usman Al-Farlaky noted that East Aceh Regency is the disaster area with the largest number of recipients compared to other regencies and cities affected by flooding on the island of Sumatra. “All of this assistance is a direct instruction from the President of the Republic of Indonesia, Mr Prabowo Subianto, through the relevant ministries that are part of the Post-Disaster Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Acceleration Task Force,” he said. In addition to compensation, the government has also distributed various other forms of aid, including housing contents assistance, socio-economic stimulus support, living expense guarantees, and household furniture assistance for flood-affected communities. “We hope the assistance received can be utilised as effectively as possible to meet family needs. This aid is a form of the government’s concern for communities affected by the disaster,” Iskandar Usman Al-Farlaky said. Meanwhile, the Head of the Social Recovery Working Group at the Indonesian Ministry of Social Affairs, Hijrah Manfaluty, stated that the government remains committed to providing social protection to flood victims in East Aceh Regency. “To date, the total compensation for deceased and injured victims distributed in East Aceh Regency has reached Rp1.575 billion,” he said. Furthermore, the Ministry of Social Affairs has also distributed housing contents assistance to 7,618 families worth Rp22.8 billion, living expense guarantees to 28,689 individuals worth Rp38.77 billion, and socio-economic stimulus support for 7,618 heads of families amounting to Rp38.09 billion. “All aid recipients were determined through a tiered data collection process and officially designated by the East Aceh Regency Government before being verified nationally by the Central Statistics Agency and the Directorate General of Population and Civil Registration,” Hijrah Manfaluty said.
