Fifty-seven children are currently undergoing rehabilitation at the Class II B Juvenile Detention Centre (LPKA) in Central Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara, for involvement in cases ranging from sexual offences to murder. Head of Registration and Classification Ahmad Saepandi stated on Wednesday (22/7/2026) that the number of children in legal trouble fluctuates. He noted that the population stood at 68 at the end of 2023, dropped to 38 by the end of 2024, and rose again to 66 by the end of 2025, with the current figure at 57. Saepandi detailed that child protection cases dominated with 34 children, followed by 8 theft cases, 5 assault cases, and 4 narcotics cases. There were also two cases each of murder and possession of a sharp weapon, and one case each of arson and sexual misconduct. During their rehabilitation, the children receive personality development and educational programmes, including religious activities, counselling services in collaboration with psychiatrists and psychologists, and formal and non-formal education through the Community Learning Activity Centre. Saepandi expressed hope that these programmes would help build the children’s character and provide them with skills for when they return to society.
