56 people in Temanggung allegedly victims of Umrah travel agency fraud

A total of 56 individuals in Temanggung Regency, Central Java, failed to depart for the Holy Land after allegedly becoming victims of fraud by the Carmilla Salim Mubarok Umrah travel agency, located on Jalan Pahlement, Temanggung, with losses reaching over Rp3 billion.

The Head of the Hajj and Umrah Ministry for Temanggung Regency, Eko Widodo, stated in Temanggung on Thursday that his office will follow up on the pilgrims’ reports by forwarding them to the Directorate General of Supervision for further processing. “This step is being taken to provide legal certainty and to fight for the refund of the victims’ funds,” he said.

According to several victims, there were originally 80 people scheduled to depart for the Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr Umrah programme in February 2026. However, of that number, only 24 people successfully departed. The remaining 56 individuals failed to depart and were reportedly detained in a hotel in Jakarta for one week without any certainty regarding their departure.

Furthermore, the 24 individuals who had already reached the Holy Land were reported to be stranded because the travel agency failed to provide return tickets to Indonesia. One of the victims, Siti Jariyah, explained that the victims were initially attracted to the programme because it offered departures during the month of Ramadan, allowing them to perform both fasting and Umrah in the Holy Land.
