552,000 Passengers Crowd KAI's Yogya-Solo and Prameks Services
PT KAI Commuter in the Daop 6 Yogyakarta region has recorded a significant surge in passenger volume, crowding various stations in the area during the 2026 Eid al-Fitr transportation period. By the third day of Eid on Monday, 23 March 2026, the total number of passengers transported since the period began on 13 March reached 552,282 people. This figure consists of 480,270 users of the Yogyakarta-Palur Commuter Line and 72,012 users of the Prameks Commuter Line. This number is expected to continue increasing as departure schedules remain available until late evening. Based on monitoring data up to Monday at 14:00 WIB, seasonal users dominated with 48,564 people, including 41,418 passengers on the Yogyakarta-Palur route and 7,146 on Prameks. “The highest surge so far occurred on the second day of Eid, Sunday, 22 March 2026, with passenger volume exceeding 75,782 people,” said Vice President (VP) Corporate Secretary of PT KAI Commuter, Karina Amanda, on Monday, 23 March 2026. This figure shows a very sharp increase compared to the first day of Eid on Saturday, 21 March 2026, which recorded 46,986 passengers. She stated that Yogyakarta Station was the busiest point with a total of 141,916 passengers boarding and alighting, making it the station with the highest volume during the Eid transportation period. In addition to its location as the main access to the Malioboro tourism area and city centre, the high mobility at this station is also supported by complete intermodal integration. Yogyakarta Station is connected to long-distance trains, YIA Airport Train, Trans Jogja, and online-based transportation services. Similar density was observed at Lempuyangan Station with 61,281 passengers, followed by Solo Balapan Station with 55,487 people, and Purwosari Station with 43,890 people. To anticipate density and support smooth public mobility, KAI Commuter is operating three additional trips for the Yogyakarta-Palur Commuter Line from Sunday to Tuesday, 24 March 2026. Thus, the total trips become 34 per day. The additional schedules include Commuter Line No. 1077 from Palur-Yogyakarta departing at 17:40 WIB, as well as two departures from Yogyakarta to Palur, namely No. 10186 at 12:54 WIB and No. 10964 at 19:30 WIB. The public can book Prameks tickets via the KAI application seven days before departure or through go-show counters, while Yogyakarta-Palur tickets can be accessed using Multi Trip Card (KMT), bank electronic cards, or GoTransit.
