545 Makassar residents displaced across six evacuation sites following flooding, says disaster agency

The number of residents displaced due to the disaster in several areas of Makassar City is 545, and they are spread across six locations. Makassar (ANTARA) – The Makassar City Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), South Sulawesi, has recorded that 545 residents are displaced in six evacuation locations following flooding caused by extreme weather in recent days. The Head of BPBD Makassar, Fadli Tahar, in Makassar on Wednesday, said that his agency had helped evacuate residents affected by the flooding to the prepared evacuation locations. “The number of residents displaced due to the disaster in several areas of Makassar City is 545, and they are spread across six locations,” he said. Fadli Tahar said that currently, there are six evacuation locations spread across the Manggala and Biringkanaya sub-districts. He detailed that in the Manggala sub-district, the evacuees are in two locations, namely the Jabal Nur Mosque in the Manggala village, which accommodates 12 families or 36 people, and the Yuda Alfatih Mosque, also in the Manggala village, which accommodates 7 families with a total of 27 people. Meanwhile, in the Biringkanaya sub-district, he added, there are four evacuation locations. The Lailatul Qadar BTP Blok AF Mosque in the Katimbang village is the location with the largest number of evacuees, namely 67 families or 232 people. Fadli Tahar said that his agency continues to monitor and collect data periodically at all evacuation locations. “We have coordinated with relevant agencies to ensure that the basic needs of the evacuees, from logistics and health services to the specific needs of vulnerable groups, are met properly,” he said. Fadli said that efforts to handle and provide services to affected residents will continue to be maximised until the situation is declared safe and the evacuees can return to their respective homes.
