54,056 Prospective Students Accepted via Domicile Route in East Java's 2026 SPMB
A total of 54,056 prospective new students have been accepted through the domicile route in the first stage of the East Java 2026 New Student Admission System (SPMB). They comprise 40,786 applicants for state senior high schools (SMA) and 13,270 for state vocational high schools (SMK), from a total of 213,066 registrants.
“Congratulations to the SMA and SMK candidates accepted in stage 1. Continue to improve your best achievements,” said Head of the East Java Education Office Aries Agung Paewai in Surabaya on Sunday.
Registration for the first stage of SPMB East Java 2026 via the domicile route for SMA and SMK officially closed on 12 June 2026 at 21.00 WIB. This stage recorded 111,144 SMA applicants and 101,922 SMK applicants.
Based on data from the East Java Education Office, 31,443 SMA candidates and 10,506 SMK candidates were accepted at their first-choice school.
Aries explained that this year’s domicile route selection is no longer based solely on the distance from residence to school. The selection prioritises a final score, which is a combination of report card grades and the Academic Ability Test (TKA), then considers domicile distance, age, and registration time.
According to Aries, candidates who were not accepted in the first stage still have the opportunity to participate in the following stages.
“There is still stage 2 through the affirmation, competition achievement, and mutation routes. In addition, there are also stages 3 and 4 through the academic achievement route for both SMA and SMK,” he said.
The East Java Education Office also noted that there are still unfilled quotas at 284 state SMA and 47 state SMK. The quota shortfall will be filled through a quota fulfilment mechanism after stage 3 for SMA and after stage 4 for SMK.
In this mechanism, selection follows the provisions of the academic achievement route. Candidates can choose three schools for SMA or three skill concentrations for SMK.
Participants are then ranked based on academic ability scores, nearest distance, average TKA score, average report card score, and registration time.
The East Java Education Office will open the second stage of registration on 17-18 June 2026 through the affirmation, competition achievement, and mutation routes. For SMA, the affirmation quota includes 13 percent for underprivileged families, five percent for children of labourers from underprivileged families, five percent for persons with disabilities, and seven percent for academic achievement affirmation for underprivileged families.
Meanwhile, the affirmation quota for SMK includes seven percent for underprivileged families, five percent for children of labourers from underprivileged families, and three percent for persons with disabilities.
The mutation route consists of a two percent quota for children of teachers and education staff, and a three percent quota for parental or guardian work relocation. The competition achievement route is divided into three percent for non-academic achievements and two percent for academic achievements.
