Residents’ activities in several areas of Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra are gradually returning to normal after the Task Force for Accelerating Rehabilitation and Reconstruction (Satgas PRR) expedited the cleanup of mud caused by floods and landslides that struck the region.

According to Satgas PRR data as of 6 April 2026, 527 locations affected by hydrometeorological disasters buried in mud have been successfully cleared. This number indicates significant acceleration compared to the achievement on 2 April 2026, when cleanup had only reached 445 locations.

In detail, Aceh recorded 480 locations cleared out of a total of 519 target points. In North Sumatra, 18 out of 24 locations have been completed. Meanwhile, in West Sumatra, all 29 target cleanup locations have been finalised.

With this achievement, more than 92 percent of mud-affected locations in Sumatra have been successfully addressed. This progress is considered to contribute to the acceleration of community activity recovery in various sectors, including education, public services, and economic activities.

The Head of the Task Force for Accelerating Post-Disaster Rehabilitation and Reconstruction in Sumatra, Muhammad Tito Karnavian, emphasised that mud cleanup remains a priority for recovery in Sumatra.

The cleanup process is carried out in two stages. The first stage focused on opening national road access, which has been 100 percent completed and functionally reopened since 25 January 2026.

Meanwhile, in the second stage, activities will target mud cleanup focusing on three types of locations: schools, office areas, and public facilities such as community health centres, mosques, and others.

Satgas PRR also specifically deployed Praja from the Institute of Domestic Administration (IPDN) to assist with mud cleanup in Aceh Tamiang Regency.

The third wave of IPDN Praja was deployed on Saturday (4/4), with 731 personnel accompanied by 37 civil servants (ASN) from the Ministry of Home Affairs to clean mud at 42 locations, including residential areas, drainage, and public and social facilities.

“The main target is to resolve issues still affected by mud, some of which has hardened, including historical sites (Istana Benua Raja), as well as residents’ homes, drainage, and others,” said Tito while leading the opening roll call for the third wave of IPDN Praja Pratama PKL at Istana Benua Raja, Aceh Tamiang Regency, Aceh, on Saturday (4/4).
