The crackdown on urban public transport (angkot) aged over 20 years in Bogor City, West Java, is ongoing. To date, 1,264 minibuses have had their operational permits frozen.

“Out of the progress regarding 1,780 (old minibus units), 1,264 have been frozen. There are only 516 minibuses remaining that have not yet been (frozen),” said Bogor Deputy Mayor Jenal Mutaqin to reporters in Bogor on Thursday (1/10/202cap).

Jenal revealed this following an inspection of pedestrian development and drainage repairs on Jalan Merdeka, Bogor City. Jenal was following up on construction obstacles caused by numerous shops and street vendors (PKL) operating on the pavements.

Jenal stated that the crackdown on old minibuses will continue gradually. He targets the completion of the enforcement by the end of this year.

“We will carry it out in stages, and it should be clear by the end of this year. There will no longer be any minibuses over 20 years of age operating in Bogor City,” he said.

Jenal mentioned that the crackdown on old minibuses only applies to vehicles under the authority of the Bogor City Government. According to him, thousands of minibuses from the Bogor Regency and Sukabumi regions, which hold Inter-City Within Province (AKDP) status, also operate in Bogor City.

Jenal noted that the West Java Provincial Government planned to conduct a joint operation today, but it was cancelled due to other commitments. The joint operation was intended to regulate AKDP-status minibuses, which fall under the authority of the West Java Transportation Agency.

“We had an appointment with the provincial authorities today, but they had special duties in Parungpanjang, so it did not proceed. Even though we had agreed to regulate the provincial AKDP minibuses,” said Jenal.

“God willing, we will reschedule with the province next week because our officers lack the authority to seize AKDP vehicles or even impound minibuses that we deem to have exceeded the age limit,” he added.

It was previously reported that drivers and owners of urban public transport (angkot) held a protest at the Bogor City Hall, West Java, rejecting the ban on operating minibuses older than 20 years. The City Government maintained that the crackdown on old minibuses would proceed in accordance with regulations.

“The crackdown will continue regarding the technical age (of the minibuses), but the most important thing is the implementation. It will be discussed later to ensure it is more conducive and acceptable to all parties,” said the Head of the Bogor City Transportation Agency, Sujatmiko Baliarto, on Thursday (3/9).
