50-Year-Old Man Found Dead in Klungkung River with Suspected Wounds from Violence

A man from Negari Village, Banjarangkan District, Klungkung, Bali, identified as I Nyoman Cita (50), was found dead floating in the Bubuh River on Thursday morning (2/7/2026). The middle-aged man had previously been reported missing after he went to bathe in the river on Wednesday evening (1/7). The body was discovered in a face-down position south of the Bypass bridge near the Klungkung KPU office at around 07:30 WITA. Tragically, police found several lacerations on the body, indicating suspected violence. “From a visual examination at the scene, a body was found in a face-down position. Lacerations were discovered on the left and right sides of the lower back, as well as on the abdomen,” explained Klungkung Police Public Relations Head Iptu Made Nyoman Alit Purnawibawa on Thursday (2/7/2026). The mystery of Nyoman Cita’s disappearance began on Wednesday evening (1/7). At around 21:45 WITA, the Banjarangkan Police received a report from residents that the victim had not returned home after bathing in the Pesona Lepang River. Upon receiving the report, police personnel, along with the family and local residents, immediately conducted a search around the location where the victim was last seen. However, due to the pitch-black conditions and lack of lighting, the search was halted at midnight for the safety of the team. The search resumed on Thursday morning (2/7) at around 07:00 WITA by a joint team. Shortly after, at around 07:30 WITA, officers and residents scouring the area from the Bypass bridge were startled by a floating object. Witness I Ketut Buda Ana (42) saw the victim’s body drifting with the current. The discovery was immediately reported to officers on the ground for evacuation. “Officers immediately processed the crime scene and secured the area around the river flow. After being evacuated from the water, Nyoman Cita’s body was immediately taken to Klungkung Regional General Hospital by ambulance,” explained Alit. Although the initial suspicion was that the victim died from being swept away and drowning, the police are not ruling out other possibilities. The lacerations found on the victim’s waist and abdomen are considered suspicious. Alit explained that the police are currently coordinating with a forensic medical team to conduct an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death. “The wounds found on the victim’s body are suspected to be the result of violence. However, to determine the exact cause of death, an autopsy must be performed,” he concluded.
