5 penitentiaries to be relocated

TANGERANG: Tangerang municipality plans to move five penitentiaries in the city out of town and use the 200 hectares or so of land currently occupied by the prisons for public facilities.

"We had earlier talked over the move with minister Yusril Ihza Mahendra but the later has been replaced by a new minister," Mayor Wahidin Halim told The Jakarta Post on Friday.

The five penitentiaries are the male children's prison and female children's prison on Jl. Daan Mogot, the adults' penitentiary on Jl. Veteran, and the youths' penitentiary and women's penitentiary on Jl. TMP Taruna.

Wahidin, however, did not say when the penitentiaries would be relocated. -- JP
