A five-metre-high gas and water spurt erupted at Perumnas 1, Jalan Nangka Raya, Kranji Village, Bekasi Barat District, Bekasi City, on Friday, 29 May 2026.

Muhammad Syaifulloh, commander of Platoon 6, Company C of Bekasi City Fire and Rescue Service (Disdamkarmat), stated that the leak originated from a pipeline owned by PT Perusahaan Gas Negara Tbk (PGN).

“Following an inspection, the leak was found to originate from a PGN gas pipeline situated above a storm drain containing water,” Syaifulloh told media at the scene on Friday.

They then coordinated with PDAM, PGN, and PLN to confirm the source of the leak.

“After PDAM officers arrived and shut off the suspected leaking pipe, the geyser continued. This confirmed the leak was not from PDAM’s pipeline,” he said.

He confirmed the leak was caused by ongoing excavation work at the site.

“There was indeed construction activity taking place at the location,” he added.

Syaifulloh said the gas pipeline leak report was received at around 14:35 WIB.

“We arrived on site within five minutes,” he added.

During the response, firefighters remained on standby and advised residents not to smoke near the site to prevent fire hazards.

“A 20-metre radius in front and behind the site was closed off due to the strong gas smell,” Syaifulloh said.

Six firefighters were deployed to secure the area. By 16:00 WIB, the geyser had ceased and the gas smell had dissipated.

“PGN has now shut off the pipeline. The situation is safe,” Syaifulloh said.
