5 Indomaret-Workers' Union Agreements on National Holiday Pay
Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Management of PT Indomarco Prismatama (Indomaret) held discussions with trade unions (SPN and SPMI), mediated directly by Deputy Minister of Manpower Afriansyah Noor, at the Ministry of Manpower (Kemnaker) on Tuesday, 26 May 2026.
The talks aimed to resolve disputes over pay for work on national holidays. Also present were Indomaret’s operational director, Andreas Djajaputra, and SPN’s chairman, Iwan Kusmawan.
The discussions resulted in crucial agreements affecting the future of Indomaret’s 250,000 employees nationwide.
Deputy Minister Afriansyah Noor stressed that, under existing regulations and laws, employees working on national holidays must receive overtime pay. He emphasised that compensatory day-offs are not permitted as a substitute for holiday work.
“The principle is a legal mandate. If employees work on a national holiday, they must be paid overtime without exception,” Afriansyah Noor said.
The talks also highlighted reports of alleged intimidation by store managers and area supervisors. Previously, data suggested 98% of employees agreed to a day-off system, but the unions suspected coercion behind the figures.
In response, it was agreed that a questionnaire survey would be re-conducted between 28 and 30 May 2026 to ensure employees’ choices are neutral and voluntary. Broadly, five key commitments were agreed upon:
Management will re-conduct a survey on staff willingness to work on 31 May and 1 June 2026, with data collection between 28-30 May involving trade unions at each branch’s HR department.
Management will take strict action and sanctions against individuals proven to have intimidated workers.
Management will promptly address requests for Collective Labour Agreement (PKB) negotiations, starting with verification of trade union membership at PT Indomarco Prismatama.
Management will take no action against workers who participated in protests on 26 May 2026 and will pay their wages.
PT Indomarco Prismatama management will pay overtime to workers who worked on 27 May 2026.
“With this agreement, we hope workers’ welfare will be secured and the industrial climate in Indonesia remains conducive,” he said.
