5 Features Exclusive to iPhone Duo, Apple's First Foldable Phone
Apple has finally released its first foldable phone, named the iPhone Duo, alongside the launch of the iPhone 18 Pro series last week. The arrival of this device has been highly anticipated, given that several other manufacturers have already introduced their foldable lines to the market.
“The iPhone Duo represents the most transformative change to the iPhone since its original version. With an entirely new design and an intuitive experience, this phone features the largest screen ever on an iPhone, while remaining easy to slip into your pocket,” said Apple CEO, John Ternus.
The foldable phone, which has a passport-like shape, features Apple’s first under-display camera technology. Several advanced features are also embedded in this premium device, which is priced at S$3,099 (approximately Rp43 million) in Singapore.
Here are several standout features to consider before deciding to switch to the iPhone Duo, as summarised from BGR, Wednesday (16/9/2026):
- Foldable Design
Naturally, the main attraction of this phone is its ability to fold. Apple has designed the folding mechanism exquisitely; when the phone is opened, the screen appears seamless like glass, providing a smooth transition when moving applications from the outer screen to the inner screen and vice versa.
The device is also claimed to have high durability thanks to titanium materials, protective glass layers, and a micro-blasted finish on the hinge cover.
Furthermore, the iPhone Duo is resilient in various conditions as it has obtained IP68 water and dust resistance certification, making it safe from rain, poolside splashes, or use at the beach.
- Under-Display Camera
One of the most exciting innovations in this phone is the inclusion of an under-display camera on the inner panel. With this technology, when the camera is inactive, users can enjoy a full view of the inner screen without the distraction of a notch or punch hole.
Overall, the phone is equipped with four cameras. The main system consists of an ultrawide camera and a Fusion main camera, each with a 48MP resolution, as well as a 12MP front-facing camera with Center Stage support.
- Matte Display
For the first time, an iPhone comes with a matte texture screen option. Previously, similar capabilities were introduced by Samsung via the Galaxy S26 Ultra for privacy purposes.
Apple introduced the matte screen on the iPhone Duo with several key considerations. Firstly, this layer serves to reduce light reflections (glare) on the inner screen while also masking the crease and the selfie camera lens.
An additional benefit is that the matte surface is claimed to provide a much more comfortable tactile sensation in the hand.
- Special Interactions with iOS 27
The iPhone Duo is powered by the latest operating system, iOS 27, which offers a significantly different navigation experience. One such feature is an iPad-like interface, where users can run two applications side-by-side.
Full support for Apple Pencil usage is also available. Apple has also overhauled several interface elements, such as moving the app dock to the right corner of the screen alongside the Wi-Fi and cellular indicators.
Additionally, the iPhone Duo’s orientation can adjust automatically depending on how the user interacts with it. For example, when placed in an upright position, the phone enters StandBy Mode to display calendar widgets, night lights, or video players.
When placed in a half-folded (lounge) position, users can enjoy video content on one side of the screen, while the other side displays control buttons such as play and pause.
- Unique Photography Methods
The iPhone Duo is equipped with various creative photography features that utilise its foldable design:
Smart Take: Automatically captures photos without a timer because the system can recognise when the user is ready to pose.
Duo Preview: Allows both screens to display previews of photos and videos simultaneously, so the subject can immediately see if the result is satisfactory.
Kid Cue: Displays various interactive animations on the outer screen, which is very helpful for attracting children’s attention to focus on the camera.
Duo FaceTime: The outer screen can also be utilised by others nearby, allowing FaceTime video call participants to be more numerous and interactive.
