5 Facts Regarding the Discovery of a Corpse at the Pancoran LRT Station That Shocked Residents

The discovery of a corpse in an electrical substation in the Pancoran area has caused a sensation among Jakarta residents. It has been revealed that the deceased was an unidentified man suspected of attempting to steal substation cables.

According to reports on Wednesday (2/9/2026), the discovery began when a pungent, foul odour was noticed around the Pancoran LRT Station on Tuesday (1/9) evening. Residents gathered in the area beneath the LRT Station and near the pedestrian overpass.

By 19:20 WIB, police lines had been established near the electrical substation located beneath the Pancoran LRT Station. Police and TNI (Indonesian National Armed Forces) personnel were present at the crime scene.

Not an LRT Employee

LRT Jabodetabek has spoken out regarding the discovery. The LRT management confirmed that the deceased was not an employee.

“The suspected deceased is not an LRT employee,” said Radhity Mardika, Manager of Public Relations for LRT Jabodetabek, when contacted on Tuesday (1/9).

Radhitya stated that this certainty stems from the fact that no LRT employees had been reported missing. He added that the LRT management only became aware of the suspected body in the Pancoran substation on Tuesday afternoon, after the foul odour was detected. Following the discovery, LRT management immediately contacted the police to conduct an identification process.

Burn Marks Found on Body; Suspected Cause of Death

Police deployed an identification team to examine the body, which revealed burn marks. The Chief of Pancoran Police, Commissioner Suminto, explained that the man is suspected to have been electrocuted by high-voltage electricity.

“He climbed to the second floor of the substation. It is suspected he was electrocuted by high-voltage electricity,” said Commissioner Suminto at the scene.

Suminto noted that while the exact time of death is not yet confirmed, initial examinations suggest the cause was an electric shock. He added that due to the high voltage involved, the precise timing of death is difficult to determine.

Victim Was Attempting to Steal Cables

Suminto further revealed that the victim is suspected to have died while attempting to steal cables, having entered through the lower area of the station.

“It is suspected that Mr X intended to take cables from the electrical substation,” said Commissioner Suminto.

The victim’s identity remains unknown as no identification documents were found on the body. The body is scheduled for an autopsy at Kramat Jati Hospital.

Saw Found at the Scene

Furthermore, Suminto detailed items found at the crime scene, including a saw. “It is predicted that the cables were the target, as the tools brought were a hacksaw and plastic bags,” he said.

Damage to Substation Discovered

PLN UID Jakarta Raya also commented on the incident, reporting damage to the substation. Haris Andika, Senior Manager of Communications and General Affairs at PLN UID Jakarta Raya, stated that PLN moved quickly to inspect electrical assets at the location.

Based on initial inspections, damage was found to several PLN assets. The door of the substation, which was previously locked, was found damaged and open. Additionally, officers found that several cables and components inside the substation were in an altered or improper condition.
