5 Facts About the Jagakarsa 'Tough Guy' Suspect: Positive for Drugs
The case of Fredik Risya Samuel, the 37-year-old Kawasaki Ninja rider in Jagakarsa, South Jakarta, who punched another motorist after being reprimanded, has escalated. The ‘tough guy’ motorcyclist is now behind bars. The assault occurred on Saturday, 4 July, at 11:30 a.m. Western Indonesian Time. The victim, Abdul Aziz, felt his motorcycle being bumped several times by the perpetrator. When the victim reprimanded him, the perpetrator refused to accept it and punched the victim multiple times. ‘Initially, the perpetrator struck the victim with his bare fists several times, targeting the left jaw,’ said Jagakarsa Police Chief Commissioner Nurma Dewi on Monday, 6 July.

- Named a Suspect
It did not take long for the police to apprehend the ‘tough guy’. He was arrested without resistance. ‘The perpetrator was secured on the road in front of the Al-Wiqoyah Mosque by officers who were conducting territorial observations and was taken to the Jagakarsa Police Station,’ said Nurma. A video of FRS’s arrest circulated widely on social media. FRS was arrested around 9:00 p.m. Western Indonesian Time while he was about to go out to eat. FRS no longer looked aggressive when arrested by several officers. At the time of his arrest, FRS was riding a green Kawasaki Ninja motorcycle. ‘He has been named a suspect,’ Nurma added. The suspect is currently detained at the police station for further investigation. Police are charging the suspect under Article 352 of the Criminal Code concerning minor assault.
- Positive for Methamphetamine
Police conducted a urine test on FRS. The results showed FRS was positive for methamphetamine. ‘That is correct. We have conducted a urine test, and he tested positive for drug use. The type is methamphetamine,’ Nurma explained. Police are currently investigating where FRS purchased the methamphetamine. Nurma stated that police will take statements from several parties. ‘That is correct. We are currently developing the case, investigating where he bought it,’ she said. ‘We will take statements from his family, the location, and anyone else involved.’
- Bizarre Motive
During questioning, FRS revealed his reason for hitting the victim. FRS claimed he committed the act because he heard a whisper. ‘The motive is that he just wanted to hit someone. He said there was a whisper telling him to hit someone on the street,’ Nurma stated. Nurma said the perpetrator admitted there was no clear reason for hitting the victim. She mentioned that the perpetrator simply saw the victim and then immediately struck him from behind. Police plan to check FRS’s mental health history. The perpetrator is currently undergoing intensive examination by investigators. ‘That is why we want to check his psychiatric history. For now, we are still taking his statement,’ she added.
- Issued a Traffic Ticket
Police will also issue FRS a traffic ticket. This is because he was not wearing a helmet while riding. ‘We have coordinated with the Jagakarsa Traffic Unit to issue a ticket. Clearly, he was not wearing a helmet, right? We also need to clarify the vehicle documents,’ said Nurma. FRS also claimed to be the original owner of the motorcycle he was riding. It is known that the motorcycle he used when hitting the victim was a Kawasaki Ninja. ‘He claims the motorcycle is his,’ she said.
- The ‘Tough Guy’ Apologises, Victim Traumatised
FRS, who committed the assault, apologised to the victim, Abdul Aziz. Fredik did this when he was brought face-to-face with Abdul Aziz at the Jagakarsa Police Station. ‘Sir, I apologise for my mistake, for my lapse in judgment, for the assault that happened yesterday,’ said Fredik. Abdul Aziz then accepted the apology. However, the victim feels traumatised and afraid to go home late at night as a result of the incident. ‘Personally, I accept it. But, on the other hand, I am traumatised, sir. Because of your actions, I am now afraid to travel alone. Especially when I go home late from work,’ said the victim. Fredik then shook hands with the victim and promised not to repeat his actions. Abdul Aziz then expressed his hope that Fredik would not repeat his actions. ‘I sincerely apologise once again, brother. I will not do it again,’ said Fredik. ‘I hope so,’ the victim replied.
