5 Facts About the Container Truck Stuck in Pramuka Underpass
One container truck became stuck in the Pramuka Underpass, heading toward Matraman, East Jakarta. The truck could not continue its journey as the rear container box was snagged on the underpass ceiling. In circulating video footage, the truck is seen on the left side of the road with the container box snagged, hindering traffic at the scene.
Traffic in the area was affected. Vehicles from Pramuka toward Matraman were reported to be congested. The Traffic Management Centre (TMC) of Polda Metro Jaya posted on its official X account: ‘Traffic conditions from Pramuka toward Matraman were observed to be busy, tending toward congestion,’ on Saturday 7 March 2026.
Police officers from the East Jakarta Traffic Unit (Satlantas) went to the scene to manage traffic and evacuate the vehicle. TMC Polda Metro Jaya said officers were handling the incident at the location. ‘Members of Satlantas Jakarta Timur are managing traffic and evacuating the container truck that was stuck in the Pramuka Underpass toward Matraman,’ wrote TMC Polda Metro Jaya.
The driver did not understand Jakarta roads. Police said the truck driver came from outside Jakarta and did not know the capital’s road conditions. AKP Darwis Yunarta, head of the Gakkum unit of Satlantas Polres Metro Jakarta Timur, said the driver relied on a navigation app. ‘The driver is from outside the city and doesn't understand Jakarta. He said he used maps,’ he said on Saturday 7 March 2026. He added that the map app does not provide guidance for large vehicles like trucks. ‘Maps doesn't show truck-specific routes; it only shows cars and motorbikes, so he didn't understand,’ he continued.
The evacuation took around three hours. Police said the evacuation lasted about three hours before the vehicle could be moved from the scene. ‘It could have been towed straight away, but the engine wouldn't start because the battery had a problem,’ AKP Darwis explained. Despite causing some traffic, the truck was eventually removed and traffic resumed normal. Police continued to regulate traffic at the scene to ensure the road returned to smooth conditions.
