5 Facts about Green SM Taxi in Bekasi Train Accident
An incident involving a Green SM electric taxi stalling on the railway tracks, subsequently struck by a KRL train, initiated the fatal accident at Bekasi Timur Station. Several facts have emerged regarding the taxi being hit by the KRL.
As compiled by detikcom on Tuesday (28/4/2026), the Green SM taxi initially stopped in the middle of the railway tracks not far from Bekasi Timur Station on Monday night (27/4). The taxi was then struck by a KRL travelling from Cikarang towards Jakarta.
The KRL involved in the collision with the taxi came to a halt on the tracks. Local residents gathered to assist in evacuating the taxi.
Meanwhile, a KRL heading towards Cikarang was delayed longer at Bekasi Timur Station due to the incident between the Jakarta-bound KRL and the Green SM taxi. It was this stationary KRL at Bekasi Timur Station that was subsequently struck by the KA Argo Bromo Anggrek travelling from Jakarta. The accident resulted in 15 deaths and 88 injuries.
Here are five facts about the Green SM taxi in the Bekasi train accident:
Stalled Due to Short Circuit
Police revealed the cause of the Green SM taxi stopping at the Bekasi Timur railway crossing, which led to the collision between the KA Argo Bromo Anggrek and the KRL. Police stated that the taxi experienced an electrical issue.
“This accident was caused by a short circuit or electrical problem from the four-wheeled electric taxi vehicle. The problem occurred precisely at the Ampera crossing, the railway crossing at Ampera,” said Kompol Sandhi Wiedyanoe, Head of Pullahjianta Subdit Laka Ditgakkum Korlantas Polri.
Sandhi explained that the incident disrupted other KRL services coming from the opposite direction. While another KRL was still held at Bekasi Timur Station, the KA Argo Bromo Anggrek arrived at high speed, resulting in the collision.
Community-Made Railway Barrier
Sandhi stated that the railway crossing barrier where the taxi stalled was made independently by the community. The police will coordinate with KAI regarding this matter.
“We cannot say this was a breakthrough because at this crossing, there is no railway gate like the ones we see there. The gate was made by the community on their own initiative, a goodwill effort from the local residents to support safety,” he said.
“This is something we will coordinate with PT KAI. It means that in some places, railway gates are truly crucial,” he added.
Green SM Taxi Driver Secured by Police
The Green SM taxi driver survived after being struck by the KRL. Currently, the driver has been secured by Polres Metro Bekasi Kota for examination.
“The taxi driver survived. He is currently secured at Polres Metro Bekasi Kota,” Sandhi said.
Ministry of Transportation to Evaluate Green SM Operations
The Ministry of Transportation (Kemenhub) has opened the possibility of evaluating Green SM taxi operations. Kemenhub stated that evaluations are always conducted following accidents.
“Every time an accident occurs, we will definitely conduct an evaluation so that we can learn from what happened and improve in the future,” said Transport Minister Dudy Purwagandhi during a press conference at Bekasi Station on Tuesday (28/4).
This was stated by Dudy in response to questions about whether there would be an evaluation of Green SM taxis. Kemenhub will also evaluate the need for double-double tracks at Bekasi Timur Station. It is known that currently, long-distance trains and KRL share the same track at Bekasi Timur Station.
“Of course, as part of our evaluation, the double-double track is included, as well as electrification,” he said.
