A member of Mobile Brigade Company 1, Battalion C Pelopor, Bripda MS, has been arrested in connection with the alleged assault of a junior secondary school student identified as AT (14), who subsequently died from his injuries.

Tual Police Chief AKBP Whansi Des Asmoro confirmed that Bripda MS has been formally named a suspect in the case.

The following are the key facts surrounding the alleged assault and the suspect's designation.

**1. Struck with a helmet**

The student, a pupil at MTS Negeri Maluku Tenggara identified as AT, was reported to have died covered in blood, allegedly from being struck by Bripda MS's helmet. The incident occurred on Jalan Marren, not far from Uningrat University in Tual City, on Thursday morning (19 February).

According to the victim's elder brother, Nasri Karim (15), he and AT had been out for a walk after their pre-dawn Ramadan meal. They were each riding separate motorcycles.

At the time, they passed through a road that served as an illegal street racing spot and was being monitored by Brimob officers. As they rode downhill, their motorcycles picked up speed.

"At that point, the Brimob officer jumped from the pavement and struck the victim's face with a helmet. The victim fell, his head hit the asphalt, and blood came from his mouth and nose, as well as from the side of his head," Nasri said.

**2. Rushed to hospital**

According to Nasri, AT was taken to Karel Sadsuitubun Regional General Hospital but could not be saved upon arrival.

Nasri stated that AT was evacuated to a patrol vehicle with his head hanging unsupported. AT's body was held by several officers whilst others merely dragged his clothing "as though he were an animal."

Nasri also claimed he was interrogated and intimidated by Brimob officers. He was pressured into admitting he had been participating in illegal street racing, but he insisted they had merely been out for a walk after their pre-dawn meal.

**3. Family demands severe punishment**

AT's family member, Moksen Ali, strongly condemned the assault that killed a victim who was still a junior secondary school student. He demanded Bripda MS receive the harshest possible punishment.

"We demand his dismissal," he said.

"We will monitor and pursue the perpetrator. We are devastated. Our child should have been warned or counselled, not assaulted to death. We feel a deep sense of loss and will continue to follow the legal process," Moksen Ali added.

**4. Named as suspect**

Bripda MS has been arrested and named a suspect following the incident. Tual Police Chief AKBP Whansi Des Asmoro said several items of evidence had been secured, including a tactical helmet, motorcycles, and other equipment.

"We have secured Bripda MS's tactical helmet, two motorcycles, the victim's motorcycle key, and other items attached to the helmet," he said on Saturday (21 February).

Authorities are currently coordinating with the Professional and Security Division of the Maluku Regional Police regarding disciplinary action against Bripda MS. He confirmed the officer would face both criminal proceedings and a police ethics code review.

Bripda MS has been charged under Article 35 in conjunction with Article 14 of the amendment to Law Number 23 of 2002 on Child Protection, which carries a maximum sentence of seven years' imprisonment. He has also been charged under Article 474 paragraph 3 of the Criminal Code, carrying a maximum sentence of five years' imprisonment.

**5. National Police headquarters issues apology**

Indonesian National Police headquarters has conveyed a formal apology and assured the public that firm action would be taken against Bripda MS.

"The Indonesian National Police conveys its apology for the actions of this individual officer, which are not in line with the values of Tribrata and Catur Prasetya," said National Police Public Relations Division Chief Inspector General Johnny Eddizon Isir in a written statement on Saturday afternoon.

Johnny Isir said the National Police extended its deepest condolences over the victim's death and expressed empathy to the victim's family.

"The Indonesian National Police is committed to firm, transparent, and accountable law enforcement and ethics code proceedings against the individual personnel involved," he stated.
