5 Countries Accepting QRIS Besides Indonesia, from Thailand to Japan
Transactions using QRIS (Quick Response Code Indonesian Standard) can be conducted in five other countries besides Indonesia. The use of this digital payment system greatly facilitates national tourists planning holidays who have not yet exchanged cash for the destination country’s currency. The inauguration was carried out by Bank Indonesia Governor Perry Warjiyo and Senior Deputy Governor of the Bank of Korea Sangdai Ryoo. “The connectivity of cross-border QR payments not only eases transactions but also strengthens SMEs, boosts tourism, and opens new opportunities for the business world, thereby supporting inclusive and sustainable economic growth,” he said, quoted from Antara. Here are some countries that accept QRIS for shopping. Thailand is the first country outside Indonesia to officially accept QRIS as an official digital payment system for shopping. QRIS has been used in the Land of the White Elephant since August 2022 through an agreement between Indonesia and Thailand. Until February 2026, Bank Indonesia reported that 1.64 million transactions had been conducted with a total value of Rp 656.27 billion. Based on Bank Indonesia’s records until February 2026, the transaction volume in Malaysia using QRIS reached 10.66 million with a total value of Rp 2.75 trillion. After Thailand and Malaysia, it was Singapore’s turn to adopt the QRIS digital payment system. QRIS can officially be used in that country based on the results of the Indonesia-Singapore cooperation in November 2023. Until February 2026, cross-border QRIS with Singapore has recorded 554,510 transactions with a total value of Rp 179.28 billion.
