5,000th Public EV Charging Station inaugurated at Tanjung Priok (SPKLU)
Jakarta — This year’s National Awakening Day celebrations were marked not only by ceremonies but also by concrete steps to strengthen the country’s electric vehicle (EV) infrastructure. In Tanjung Priok, North Jakarta, PLN (Persero) through the Jakarta Raya Distribution Unit inaugurated the operation of the 5,000th Public Electric Vehicle Charging Station (SPKLU) in Indonesia, on Wednesday, 20 May 2026. The facility is located at PLN UP3 Tanjung Priok, an area long recognised as a hub for mobility, logistics and economic activity in North Jakarta.
The inauguration was attended by PLN Retail and Consumer Director Adi Priyanto, PLN UID Jakarta Raya General Manager Moch. Andy Adchaminoerdin, and North Jakarta Deputy Mayor Fredy Setiawan. Their presence signified that building EV infrastructure is no longer only a technical matter of power supply, but part of changing how people move, work, and adapt to cleaner energy.
As EV usage grows, SPKLU is an important factor for user safety. Easier access to charging reduces hesitation to switch from fossil-fuel vehicles to EVs.
Adi Priyanto said the inauguration of the 5,000th SPKLU is a milestone for PLN in expanding Indonesia’s EV ecosystem. He said the development of SPKLU is in line with the growing number of EVs over time. ‘We built the 5,000th SPKLU in response to the growth in EVs. SPKLU is now available across Indonesia; we hope the public will be more comfortable and not hesitate to use EVs. PLN fully supports and strives to facilitate EV development in line with government programmes to achieve net zero emissions,’ Adi said.
From infrastructure to public trust
For EV users, charging infrastructure is more than an extra facility; it influences journey planning, driving comfort, and confidence that EVs can be used in daily activities. Therefore, the SPKLU Centre Tanjung Priok is not merely a charging point but a charging service centre offering several charging units with different capacities within one area.
Users can choose charging type according to need, whether they require fast charging or have longer parking time.
The SPKLU Centre Tanjung Priok features two Ultra Fast Charging units at 200 kW, six Ultra Fast Charging units at 120 kW, and one Medium Charging unit at 22 kW. All units are available with CCS2 and AC connectors so they can be used by a range of EVs.
In addition, media reports note that the facility includes two SPKLU units for two-wheelers and two SPBKLU units (Public EV Battery Swapping Stations). The inclusion of two-wheeler facilities extends coverage, given urban mobility isn’t limited to cars but also electric motorcycles.
To enhance user comfort, the SPKLU Centre Tanjung Priok also offers amenities such as a lounge, tyre-inflation facilities, toilets, and a vending machine. With these facilities, charging is no longer seen as a passive waiting time but as part of a more comfortable mobility experience.
Adi emphasised that PLN will continue to adjust infrastructure development to meet the needs of the growing EV user base. He said the more charging points available, the greater public trust in EVs.
Tanjung Priok and the Meaning of a Strategic Location
Choosing Tanjung Priok as the site for the 5,000th SPKLU has particular meaning. The area is not only a residential and city government district but also a logistics hub, workers, traders, and operational vehicles.
In areas such as Tanjung Priok, energy infrastructure needs are not symbolic. They exist to meet real needs of fast-moving urban communities. Port activities, industrial zones, major road networks, and urban mobility make North Jakarta one of the regions relevant for strengthening EV services.
