5,000 People Join 'Sarungan' Healthy Walk in Tangerang City
Tangerang Mayor Sachrudin stated that the ‘sarungan’ healthy walk, part of the 2026 Al-A’zhom Festival, serves as a platform for fostering community ties between residents and the city government, as well as preserving Islamic culture. ‘The essence is how we can build togetherness, build this city by maintaining relationships and meeting the community in a more familiar atmosphere,’ the Mayor said after opening the event at the Tangerang City Government Centre on Sunday. He explained that wearing a sarung during the activity is part of an effort to preserve Islamic culture in the city. Public enthusiasm was notably high, with the number of participants estimated to have reached around five thousand. The event, which has become a regular annual agenda, was lively and full of camaraderie. It was not merely a mass sporting event but a momentum to strengthen community togetherness in a relaxed and intimate atmosphere. Fahrul Rizal, Chairman of the Al-A’zhom Festival, expressed appreciation for the public’s participation in enlivening the entire series of this year’s festival. In addition to the Sarungan Healthy Walk, the festival also features various other activities such as competitions, a grand tabligh, and a culinary festival for the public to enjoy. The 2026 Al-A’zhom Festival runs from 15 to 27 June, with a variety of religious, cultural, and entertainment activities centred around the Al-A’zhom Grand Mosque area in Tangerang City.
