5,000 Participants in Torch Parade to Enliven Car Free Night on Sudirman During Takbiran Night
JAKARTA – Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung stated that thousands of torch parade participants will enliven the Car Free Night (CFN) event on MH Thamrin Street to General Sudirman Street in Central Jakarta on Takbiran night for Eid al-Fitr 1447 AH.
“The Jakarta Provincial Government has decided to hold what is known as Car Free Night. In addition, we will also permit approximately 5,000 torch parade participants,” said Pramono while attending a joint breaking-of-fast event with community leaders and residents of West Jakarta at the Cengkareng Barat Sports Hall on Monday (16 March 2026).
According to him, the activity is part of the government’s effort to provide space for the public to celebrate Takbiran night in a festive yet orderly atmosphere.
Additionally, Pramono mentioned that various religious activities held in Jakarta over the past several months have proceeded safely and smoothly. He cited examples including the Christmas Carol Colossal on Sudirman-Thamrin, Lunar New Year celebrations, and the ogoh-ogoh parade during the Nyepi Day commemoration.
“Alhamdulillah, everything has gone well,” he said.
To commemorate Eid al-Fitr, the Jakarta Provincial Government will also make all government-managed public transportation free for two days. The transportation services included are Jakarta MRT, Jakarta LRT, TransJakarta, TransJabodetabek, as well as JakLingko and Mikrotrans services.
Beyond that, the provincial government is also providing free access to several tourist sites for Jakarta Smart Card (KJP) holders, including Jaya Ancol Dream Park, Ragunan Zoo, and the National Monument (Monas).
“The Jakarta Provincial Government has decided the theme for this Eid exodus is ‘Mudik ke Jakarta’ (Mudik to Jakarta). Why am I mentioning mudik to Jakarta? So that those who remain and do not return to their hometowns can still enjoy Eid properly in Jakarta,” expressed Pramono.
