5.0 Magnitude Earthquake Shakes West Pasaman, No Tsunami Potential

Jakarta (ANTARA) - An earthquake with a magnitude of 5.0 struck the southwest of West Pasaman Regency, West Sumatra, on Thursday at 00:49 WIB, but it did not trigger a tsunami.

The website of the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysical Agency (BMKG) stated that the epicenter of the earthquake was located at coordinates 0.41 South Latitude (LS) and 98.98 East Longitude (BT), or approximately 110 kilometers southwest of West Pasaman.

Based on statistics, the depth was recorded at 18 kilometers. The BMKG confirmed that the earthquake did not have the potential to cause a tsunami, so the public does not need to worry.

At the same time, an earthquake with a magnitude of 4.9 also occurred in the North Sumatra region. The location of the earthquake was at 0.42 LS-98.98 BT, with a depth of 26 km.

However, the BMKG stated that this earthquake also did not have the potential to cause a tsunami.
