499th Jakarta Anniversary: City Government to Provide Free Public Transport

The Jakarta Provincial Government will make public transport fares free during the 499th anniversary of the City of Jakarta. The policy is being offered as a gift to the people of Jakarta. Governor of Jakarta Pramono Anung said the policy of providing free public transport services is something that is done annually to mark the capital’s anniversary. However, he was not yet ready to officially announce the policy. “So it is not free entry to entertainment venues, it is free use of public transport. We will announce it in due course,” he said at Taman Ismail Marzuki, Central Jakarta, on Friday (5/6/2026). Pramono is also considering waiving entry fees for tourist attractions managed by the Jakarta Provincial Government. These include Ragunan Wildlife Park and Ancol Dreamland, as well as several museums owned by Jakarta. “As for tourist sites owned and managed by the Jakarta Provincial Government, we will consider making them free as well. For example, entry to Ancol, entry to Ragunan, then the museums, the libraries, and so on,” he said. Despite this, he could not yet confirm whether this policy would be implemented. He stated that discussions still needed to take place first. For now, the services confirmed to be free during the 499th Jakarta Anniversary are public transport such as Transjakarta, the MRT, and the Jakarta LRT. “We will hold that event, and we will certainly announce it precisely on the date before the 22nd (of June),” said Pramono. In welcoming the 499th anniversary of Jakarta, the Jakarta Provincial Government will also inaugurate several new infrastructure projects. Among these are the Rasuna Said area after its refurbishment, the Jakarta International Stadium (JIS) Station, and the connecting bridge between Ancol and JIS. “In conjunction with Jakarta’s anniversary, there are indeed several sites that we will inaugurate, including Rasuna Said, then the commuter line station at JIS, the bridge connecting JIS and Ancol, and several other places we will inaugurate,” he said.
