Ahead of the 2026 Lebaran exodus, the Ministry of Public Works (PU) has partnered with Google to provide direct access to mudik rest post information on Google Maps. The collaboration enables travellers to quickly locate official government rest posts during their journeys home.

Through the integration, travellers need only search “Posko Mudik Kemen PU” on Google or Google Maps to identify the nearest rest point along national mudik routes.

Public Works Minister Dody Hanggodo stated that the partnership aims to expand information access for the public so that journeys home can proceed more safely and comfortably. “Our sole objective is to provide ease and extensive information to the public so they can travel home safely and comfortably,” he said in an official statement on Thursday (12 March).

To support the smooth flow of traffic during this year’s exodus, the Ministry of Public Works has prepared 496 rest posts distributed across various regions of Indonesia. These posts are located along national highway sections and strategic points that serve as primary routes for travelling returnees.

The rest posts function not merely as stopping points. Travellers can also utilise basic facilities including toilets, beverages, light snacks, and rest areas to recover before continuing their journey. Some posts are equipped with additional facilities to reduce driver fatigue, such as karaoke, PlayStation consoles, and massage chairs.

Additionally, the posts serve as emergency response points to assist in handling emergency situations along mudik routes. Their presence is expected to accelerate response to potential travel disruptions, ranging from traffic congestion to disasters such as flooding, waterlogging, or landslides near national road networks.

The Public Works Ministry has also enhanced mudik information services through the mudik.pu.go.id microsite, which displays various travel data in real time. Available information includes road and bridge conditions, mudik post locations, traffic congestion hotspots, flood and landslide-prone areas, and CCTV monitoring at various road sections.

Richard Darsono, Strategic Partner Development Manager for Google Indonesia, stated that integrating rest post locations into Google Maps aims to ensure travellers can access important information quickly during their journeys. “With this integration, travellers can more easily find rest areas, thereby reducing the risk of fatigue during travel,” he said.

The synergy between the government and this digital platform is expected to help the public plan their mudik journeys better whilst maintaining safety during the journey home.
