Jakarta, Kompas.com — The government has made 496 Eid homecoming rest stops easily accessible through Google Maps as part of a collaborative effort between the Ministry of Public Works and Google to assist citizens in finding official rest areas along homecoming routes.

Public Works Minister Dody Hanggodo stated that the partnership aims to provide comprehensive information access to the public to ensure safer and more comfortable homecoming travel.

“We extend our sincere thanks to Google for this collaboration. Our shared goal is simply to provide ease and extensive information for the public so they can travel home safely and comfortably,” said Dody in a statement on Monday (16 March 2026).

The rest stops are located along national highways and strategic points frequently used by homecoming travellers. Members of the public can simply search “Posko Mudik Kemen PU” on Google Maps to locate the nearest rest stop that can be utilised for breaks during their journey.

The rest stops provide basic facilities for travellers including rest areas, toilets, beverages, light snacks, and other essential amenities to help travellers recover before continuing their journey. Beyond basic facilities, several rest stops are equipped with entertainment and relaxation amenities such as karaoke, PlayStation consoles, and massage chairs to enhance traveller comfort.

Beyond serving as rest areas, these rest stops function as emergency response points to manage critical situations along homecoming routes, including traffic disruptions and potential disasters such as flooding and landslides near national road networks.

The integrated platform provides real-time information on road and bridge conditions, rest stop locations, traffic congestion hotspots, and CCTV monitoring across numerous road sections.

Richard Darsono, Strategic Partner Development Manager for Geo at Google Indonesia, stated that integrating rest stop data into Google Maps was undertaken to help the public access accurate information during travel.

“We are honoured to continue supporting the Indonesian tradition of homecoming through our technology. By integrating the Public Works Ministry’s strategic rest stop locations into Google Maps, we aim to ensure every traveller has access to accurate and real-time information at their fingertips,” said Richard.
