The series of events commemorating the 479th anniversary of Semarang City will commence on Tuesday, 14 April 2026. Beyond ceremonies, the opening will feature various public service programmes, health campaigns, and efforts to bolster residents’ nutritional resilience.

‘The city anniversary commemoration is not just a ceremony, but a momentum to ensure its benefits are directly felt by the community,’ said Semarang Mayor Agustina Wilujeng on Sunday, 12 April 2026.

Adopting the theme ‘Semarang Moves, Semarang Grows Stronger’, the activities centred in Kampung Tambaklorok and the Semarang City Hall courtyard will reflect collaboration between the government and the community in promoting inclusive and sustainable development.

Mayor Agustina is scheduled to kick off the events with a fish-eating campaign alongside coastal residents in Kampung Tambaklorok. In addition to education, the event will include communal fish meals as a concrete effort to improve family nutrition. ‘This year’s approach prioritises programmes based on residents’ needs, one of which is health issues and stunting prevention,’ she stated.

Following the Tambaklorok activities, the series will continue at City Hall with the official opening of the 479th Semarang City anniversary commemoration, marked symbolically with Forkopimda officials. This agenda will also incorporate a city-level fish cooking competition, a fish-eating seminar with PKK, and a fisheries expo involving local businesses.

Various public services will also be provided on the first day, such as blood donation, free health checks, mobile family planning services, and the distribution of nutritious food aid for vulnerable groups, including children under two years old and prospective brides. These activities form part of the ‘Great Gift’ programme, a package of services designed to strengthen the social and economic aspects of the community.

Overall, the 479th anniversary series will run until May 2026, encompassing social, cultural, and creative economy festival activities. The Semarang City Government will also ensure all event information is integrated into a unified public channel for easy access by residents.

Agustina added that the government aims to shift the paradigm of anniversary commemorations to be more substantial. She noted that the government is not only presenting events but ensuring every activity delivers direct benefits to residents.
