Jakarta - The school holiday period always brings stories close to the heart of society. There are children who finally return home to meet their parents, families who plan trips together after saving up time, and residents who use the school holidays to visit relatives, go on holiday, or run small businesses in their destination areas.

PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) has noted that the 30% transport discount programme from the government, via the Directorate General of Railways of the Ministry of Transportation, can still be utilised by the public for the travel period from 20 June to 5 July 2026.

Based on data as of 23 June 2026 at 10.00 WIB, out of a cumulative capacity of 1,174,624 seats, a total of 701,965 tickets have been booked, or 59.76%. Thus, 472,659 seats remain available for people wishing to travel during the school holiday period.

Vice President of Corporate Communication at KAI, Anne Purba, said this discount programme provides important support for the public to plan school holiday trips at more affordable costs.

“The figure of 701,965 customers is not just a number. Within it are stories of children returning home to embrace their parents, families who can finally travel together, students filling their holiday time, and people who are helped to travel with lighter expenses. KAI expresses its appreciation to the Government through the Directorate General of Railways because this programme can be directly felt by customers,” Anne said.

Based on departure date, the highest booking volume occurred on 21 June 2026 with 82,062 customers, followed by 20 June 2026 with 77,505 customers, 22 June 2026 with 73,210 customers, and 23 June 2026 with 60,582 customers. In the subsequent period, bookings also continued to move, including for departures on 26 June 2026 with 50,467 customers and 28 June 2026 with 48,786 customers.

In terms of departure stations, the five stations with the highest volume are Pasarsenen with 91,651 customers, Yogyakarta with 50,107 customers, Semarang Tawang with 32,251 customers, Lempuyangan with 29,669 customers, and Bekasi with 27,251 customers. Meanwhile, the five highest destination stations are Pasarsenen with 84,501 customers, Yogyakarta with 55,554 customers, Semarang Tawang with 31,348 customers, Bekasi with 28,198 customers, and Lempuyangan with 28,020 customers.

The routes with the highest volume under this programme are Lempuyangan–Pasarsenen with 13,115 customers, Pasarsenen–Lempuyangan with 12,735 customers, Pasarsenen–Yogyakarta with 11,337 customers, Sukabumi–Bogor Paledang with 8,143 customers, and Bogor Paledang–Sukabumi with 8,095 customers.

The trains with the highest volume during the programme period are KA Joglosemarkerto with 35,178 customers, KA Ambarawa Ekspres with 28,846 customers, KA Pangrango with 28,500 customers, KA Sawunggalih with 27,393 customers, and KA Majapahit with 20,094 customers.

Anne explained that train journeys during the school holiday period have a broader impact beyond simply moving customers from one city to another. Each departure drives economic activity around stations, including onward transport, food vendors, accommodation, tourism operators, and local MSMEs that benefit from the increased number of visitors.

“When a family gets off at the destination station, economic activity grows. There are onward vehicles used, food purchased, souvenirs brought home, and tourist attractions visited. That is where the railway plays its role as a link between family journeys and the pulse of the local economy,” Anne said.

KAI invites members of the public who have not yet made travel plans to immediately take advantage of the remaining discounted ticket quota while it is still available. Customers can check schedules, routes, and ticket availability through the Access by KAI application, the official website kai.id, and other official sales channels.

Anne also urged customers to plan their journeys well, arrive at the station early, ensure that ticket data matches their identity, and look after their belongings during the trip.

“The school holiday is always a space to create memories. KAI wants every journey to be safe, comfortable, orderly, and to bring benefits to the communities around the stations. As long as tickets are still available, let us plan our journeys early and make wise use of this discount programme,” Anne concluded.
